“A dance with Flemish identity in Dubai”, as headlined in newspaper De Tijd. Chokri Ben Chikha’s performance about the genetical base of Flemish artistical talent sets out to find the common denominator between Jan Van Eyck, The Antwerp Six and our world renowned choreographers.

In this artistical quest Action Zoo Humain teamed up with Fisheye for both productional support as well as visual content creation, live videomixing ánd a rehearsal studio. This partnership seemed to have turned out very productive, as seen on the stage of the Flemish Pavillion at the World Expo 2020 in Dubai just a few weeks ago.

Fisheye’s services are known to be a one-stop-shop solution for creatives worldwide who want to bring their ideas and concepts to life. In this case we provided our technical knowledge to create a rotating dance platform. In the past few months and years we’ve created multiple moving or rotating platforms for car presentations and other theatre productions so we gladly accepted this challenge.

Our technical drafters came up with all specs for this production and booted our CNC tube laser for another exciting production. Rather unique in the process is our choice to use DC engines, which not only allowed us to build a platform that is low to the ground, but also allowed us to keep the platform spinning at a very specific speed. A custom Python application was coded and designed to control the engines with an EtherCAT protocol.

As part of our Team Digital, Fisheye’s creative content creators started a conversation with creative director Chokri Ben Chikha to create background visuals for the performance. A detailed timeline, including both old and new “Flemish Masters” was created and projected in our studio.

During the final show at the World Expo in Dubai Kris, one of Fisheye’s co-founders, was on site for live videomixing of the dance performance with the visual content created by team Fisheye. A very mobile mixing solution allowed for tons of flexibility and creative visual mixing as part of the live performance.
