Corona Memorial Artwork in Wetteren
Last week the municipality of Wetteren installed an artwork along the Schelde canal as a memorial to the victims of the ongoing COVID19 pandemic. Fisheye proudly designed and produced this piece of art.
The memorial is located on the towpath on the banks of the Schelde between Wetteren and Schellebelle. The municipality of Wetteren wanted to provide a quiet and peaceful spot for locals and passersby to mourn their losses in challenging times like these.
The artwork is based upon the abstract shape of 2 persons standing side by side, with a significant part missing. This extraction symbolizes that exact feeling of missing the loved ones we’ve lost over the course of this pandemic. Using weathering steel, also known as COR-TEN steel, was a deliberate choice as this will evolve over the course of time, just like emotions and memories do.
The idea was conceptualised and visualised by our design team and produced by our workshop wizards all in our HQ in Wetteren. We like to combine craftsmanship with creative thinking, and this was exactly the briefing we received when initialising this project.
