C-mine
C-mine recently opened PLAYGROUND, an innovative and unique playscape where art and play come together. Welcome Little Stranger, designed by Walter Van Beirendonck, invites children and grown-ups alike into a world of imagination. We are proud to have brought this singular vision to life.
The design is inspired by extraterrestrial life and centres around a mysterious “little stranger” waiting to be discovered. Starting from Walter’s initial drawings, we translated his ideas into not only detailed 3D renders, refining them through close collaboration until they fully matched his vision, but also by using AR visualisation in the space to define volumes and look and feel.
Fit for the future
All modules were carefully engineered to create a durable and safe environment for children. Rounded edges, robust materials, and intuitive layouts ensure easy hop-on and hop-off play.
Colour plays a crucial role in Walter’s work, so every shade was thoroughly tested and cross-checked before full production. More than 400 square metres of wood were primed and painted to form walking paths and islands that guide visitors through the ball pit.
We come in peace
The centrepiece of the playscape is a life-size UFO, complete with two friendly aliens welcoming visitors aboard. Its silver metallic finish and integrated LED lighting make it a true eye-catcher.
Another imagination-sparking element is an orange dome featuring integrated drawing tablets, 3D-printed rockets and stars, and LED lighting. At the top sits a rotating cut-out of Walter and a friendly alien riding a rocket. The space also includes a dress-up case with costumes and three distorting mirrors, encouraging creative play and self-expression.
To complete the experience, we produced modular seating units for grown-ups, positioned opposite the playscape. From here, they can comfortably watch their children explore, discover, and play.
